19.Jul.2010 Excellence and Service
Don’t know a lot about Tom Peters . . . but found and like this quote . . .
EXCELLENCE. Always.
If not EXCELLENCE, what?
If not EXCELLENCE now, when?
EXCELLENCE is not an “aspiration.”
EXCELLENCE is not a “journey.”
EXCELLENCE is the next five minutes.
Organizations exist to serve. Period.
Leaders exist to serve. Period.
Service is a beautiful word.
Service is a beautiful word. Service is character, community, commitment. (And profit.)
Service is a beautiful word. Service is not “Wow.” Service is not “raving fans.” Service is not “an experience.” Service is “just” that—SERVICE.
30.Mar.2010 Church Marketing
Church Marketing: Does it go deep enough? Here’s Tim Keller’s opinion via Phil Cooke:
Marketing is about felt needs. You find the need and then you say Christianity will meet that need. You have to adapt to people’s questions. And if people are asking a question, you want to show how Jesus is the answer. But at a certain point, you have to go past their question to the other things that Christianity says. Otherwise you’re just scratching where they itch. So marketing is showing how Christianity meets the need, and I think the gospel is showing how Christianity is the truth.
Read the whole article. Good stuff and pretty much what I think and how I operate about all of this communications stuff. Oh and the post below on Online Marriage, you do realize I made it up…right?
15.Feb.2010 Some Recent Design Work
Finished a couple projects at work that I liked. Thought I would throw them up here. (Of course you can see more on Flickr…you know you want to).

22.Jan.2010 Painting Furniture
OK,
Another thing I like is carpentry, building things and painted furniture. So without you thinking I am too “crafty” I am going to link to a crazy gal’s site, with a pretty cool paint job on a thrift store china cabinet.
Sometimes you just have to go for it and not worry about it being an “antique,” or what will the neighbors think, or whatever. If it is something you will like and enjoy in your house . . . go for it. See beyond what it looks like at the thrift store, garage sale or on your neighbors lawn on your city’s trash pickup day, (ie, our current set of dining room chairs…and yes I did reapolster them, that is how I roll…even if I can’t spell reaploster and I am not going to google it) see what it will look like in your living room.
So enjoy.

Oh, and I forgot. When you get over there you will see they had to rent a uhaul. Well, I have a truck. So there. Not too crafty.
